Sensory Profile
Living chemical analyzer — detects poisons, drug compositions, chemical compounds, and metallic traces at concentrations invisible to normal tasters. Tongue carries more fungiform papillae and bitter receptor types than any measured subject. Identifies substances at parts-per-million concentrations. Note: oral chemesthesis (burn, cool, astringency) is trigeminal, not cutaneous touch — this is Elwin's, not Lula's.
His isolation is communicative, not sensory. He receives constant chemical input — airborne particulates dissolving in saliva, temperature shifts, the chemistry of every room and street — but has almost no way to share what he perceives. Without sight, hearing, touch, or smell, he is the most dependent on the group's communication systems. Cold degrades his perception (below 15°C, sensitivity drops, saliva production falls). Communication requires elaborate coding (food-code, finger-to-tongue sequences). Requires caretaking for navigation and daily life. Carries the deepest psychological scars.
The taste of Oklahoma dust — alkaline, calcium-rich, faintly metallic. Pre-verbal. Lives only in his mouth.
CANNOT Perceive (Absolute)
Sensory exclusivity is absolute. Violations destroy the premise. Zero exceptions.

- Smell descriptions (taste and smell overlap but Elwin has only taste)
- Physical texture beyond what enters his mouth
Before the Hunt
Cannot work. Requires full-time care from Lula. The unspoken burden.
[TO BE DEVELOPED — White, Oklahoma stock. The smallest at birth. Near-total sensory isolation would profoundly affect bearing and physicality. Requires full-time care.]

Relationships
Clyde ↔ Elwin — The Wou
nd The most functional sibling and the most dependent. Unspoken resentment about the care burden. Elwin has tasted Clyde's resentment in the chemical traces on his skin for years. The novel's deepest emotional landmine — and the site of its most important detonation in the final pages.
